Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground borders Bay Lake, which you can take a boat across (free!) to Magic Kingdom. (The Grand Floridian, the Polynesian, the Contemporary, and the Wilderness Lodge also border the lake.) There are several stocked ponds throughout the campground, but the lake is only fishable via guided boat tours with Disney. (Fun fact - the lake is NOT stocked.) We had zero plans to book a guided fishing trip, but one thing lead to another...
It's no secret that our boys are obsessed with fishing. While they were out exploring the campground on their bikes, they ended up loitering around the boat pier and making friends with a fishing guide. They came back to our campsite and convinced us we had to come meet their new guide friend, who had just successfully landed an 8 pound bass from the boat dock. After walking the dogs down to the dock and enjoying a conversation with the guides, someone who had a booked trip that day called in and cancelled last minute. We were offered a deal we couldn't pass up to take their place, so off we went!
It was a beautiful afternoon with just a little wind, and the fishing was as magical as everything else at Disney. We were fishing with live bait and pulled in nearly 20 fish in an hour and half. We even were out at the "slow" part of the day (early afternoon,) and our guide said the prime fishing would be the 7am or 10am time slots.
We had an absolute blast and caught some monster bass! We definitely landed some epic fishing memories at Disney!
