The Texas Beach - Port Aransas

Welcome to the Texas Island!

Although we grew up in Texas, we'd never before made it all the way down to the fun island community of Port Aransas. It's one of my parent's favorite little getaway spots, so we planned a meet-up with them at their favorite campground.

There are two ways to get to Port Aransas - take the ferry ride over from the main land, or drive through Corpus Christie and take the bridge. We decided to take the ferry ride over, which was our first ferry experience with the camper. It was a lot of fun (totally free), easy, and pretty quick. We even spotted some dolphins swimming in the water.

As soon as you drive off of the ferry and into Port A, you feel like you've been transported to a different world - a bustling little island beach town, bursting with coastal colors and even a pirate ship. We just happened to be arriving during many Texans' spring break, so it was quite busy but totally manageable. We managed to showed up a few days early and surprised Grammy & Papa on the beach!

This was the busiest beach we've seen so far on our trip. This was also the first beach where we could drive the truck right out on the beach. A $12 annual beach pass gets you access to the beach, and you can even drag your camper right down on the sand if you want to. Golf carts (a.k.a. "buggies") are allowed all over the beach and in town (except for the main road.) Buggies of all shapes and sizes were zooming up and down the beach and all around town. The kids loved playing in the sand and doing a little fishing with Grandpa.

We stayed at Gulf Waters RV Resort, which has direct access to the beach via a boardwalk. This campground was interesting in that each site is individually owned and rented out via the management when the owners aren't there. The sites are all very unique - some have tiki huts, bars, tables and more. I loved that every site was different. Some of my parent's friends joined us at the campground for the week, and we loved being in the same campground as family & friends!

We even took a ride out into the gulf on a pirate ship! The boys had sword fights with pirates, Harper won a treasure hunt, Grammy won a dance-off, and we enjoyed the views of the bay.
